Who This Is For
I work with you at transition points, whether that is facing a personal decision, carrying a role that no longer fits, or noticing a pattern that repeats no matter how much effort you put in.
You have probably tried to think your way through it and often the effort itself has become part of the problem.
You may also be questioning whether the path you are on is the one you want.
This is not therapy and it's not typical coaching.
The Goal
The goal isn't simply to get you unstuck. It's to help you understand yourself more deeply, use your energy more wisely, and develop the capacity to move through difficult situations in a way that is aligned with what matters most to you.
How We Work
Sessions are built around your life rather than a fixed curriculum. We might meet weekly. We might meet monthly. The approach is set up to fit you.
We might also review a difficult message together before you send it, prepare for an important conversation, or bring in someone who matters to you when that serves the work. The structure follows what you need at that point.
This is done in a variety of ways that best support you from text check ins, to phone calls and video conferencing. Which ever communication style fits your lifestyle.
What you can expect
As your consultant, I will:
-
Help you map the pattern behind the stuck point, including what it does for you in the short term and what it costs you over time
-
Clarify your values and what you want your effort to serve
-
Uncover the rules and strategies that once helped and now limit you
-
Teach and practice skills for attention, difficult emotion, flexible thinking, and action
-
Plan and review committed steps so that change shows up in daily life
-
Keep the work accountable and honest
My Approach
I work from Functional Contextualism, which asks what a behavior does in a particular context rather than what it looks like on the surface. Relational Frame Theory helps us see how language and thought shape what you notice, avoid, and pursue.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy then gives us practical processes for responding differently: contacting the present moment, making room for difficult experience, stepping back from rigid thinking, clarifying what matters, and taking committed action.
I bring more than twenty years in behavioral health and about fifteen years as a health educator, so the work stays practical and grounded in what is workable for you.
Your situation is treated as its own case, because you are not an average.
I work with a small number of people at a time. We agree on a defined period at the start, commonly (three to six months, confirm), and review progress together along the way so the work stays aimed at what you came for.
Format & Commitment
Consulting Versus Therapy
Consulting is a professional advisory relationship centered on a personal or professional challenge, transition, or decision. It does not include mental health treatment, diagnosis, or crisis support. Because I am a licensed mental health counselor, we agree at the start on which frame fits, and we revisit that choice if your needs change. If therapy would serve you better, I will say so and can point you to Rhode Island ACT.
